1,251 physical designs in 12 hours: Archimedes agents rewrite hardware and re-check what fails
Archimedes from Standard Physics runs swarms of AI agents that write physical designs as code, test each one in a real physics simulator (via Reynolds / OpenFOAM), and keep improving the best designs. One published run explored 1,251 propeller designs in 12 hours across six agent teams on 12 cloud machines and kept a dual-medium propeller that reached about 90% of specialist performance in both air and water. Other case studies on the site include a data-hall cooling redesign claiming about $227k yearly savings, a turbine blade with 25.5% less loss versus a benchmark in 2D, and a low-spill mug. Archimedes re-tests leading designs on finer simulations and labels results that only hold when cold or that failed buildability checks.
Why it matters
Most "AI for hardware" demos stop at a pretty CAD render. Archimedes publishes the loop that rejects designs when the finer simulation or real constraint check fails.
Who it's for
Hardware, thermal and fluids teams who want agentic design search with verifiable simulation, not prompt-only concepts.
How to try it
- Read the Archimedes case studies and note which results are 2D, cold-only or re-verified on finer meshes.
- If you have a bounded design goal (propeller, cooling loop, valve), email kabir@inviscidai.com with the limits you will not violate.
- Ask for the simulation case and rejection log for any design you might build, not only the winning render.
- For DIY CFD without a full Archimedes run, start with the free Reynolds / OpenReynolds path first.
