ChatGPT finally lets you stay signed in to a work and a personal account and switch in one tap

ChatGPT now lets you keep two accounts signed in at the same time and jump between them without logging out, for example a work account and a personal one. Each account keeps its own chats, memory, files and billing, so nothing leaks from one to the other. OpenAI's help article covers the web and the iOS and Android apps, and Codex lead Tibo said on X that mobile is live now with desktop following soon. Notifications keep arriving for both accounts.

Why it matters

No more logging out of your work account to ask something personal, or mixing a personal memory into company chats.

Who it's for

Anyone who has a company ChatGPT seat plus a personal account, freelancers juggling client workspaces, and families sharing a phone.

How to try it

  1. On mobile, open Settings and tap Switch account, then Add account.
  2. On the web, open the account menu and choose Add account.
  3. Sign in to the second account; switch back the same way at any time.
  4. Check which account is active before sharing files, since memory and files don't carry across.

Plan & availability: Up to 2 accounts at once on web, iOS and Android, still rolling out (Tibo said desktop is coming soon). A brand-new second account starts on the Free plan; each account keeps its own plan and billing. As described on OpenAI's help page on October 31, 2026.
