Ask your coding agent to play a sound when it needs you

A simple tip for people running several Claude Code or Codex sessions at once: add a line to your prompt asking the agent to play a sound cue when it really needs your input. You can then work on something else and only switch back when you hear it.

Why it matters

Juggling several long-running agents usually means checking terminals over and over. A sound cue lets you stop babysitting them.

Who it's for

Developers who run two or more agent sessions in parallel.

How to try it

  1. Add to your prompt: "When you truly need me, play a sound so I know, because I'm working on other things."
  2. Allow the command it uses to play audio (for example afplay on macOS) in your permission settings.
  3. Use a different sound per session if you want to know which one is calling.

Plan & availability: Any terminal agent that can run shell commands on your machine (Claude Code, Codex).

Note: reported by users on X; we haven't independently confirmed it works in the current version.
